Moniepoint betting deposit: what comes off a ₦10,000 transfer

By · · updated

If you fund your account with ₦10,000 from Moniepoint, ₦70 comes off on top and the bookmaker still receives the full amount. That is ₦20 in wallet fee reported by momocalc and ₦50 in sender stamp duty reported by TheCable. This is the case where you send a round ₦10,000 and the charges come on top of it.

That wallet figure comes from a fee tracker, not from Moniepoint’s published schedule. Check the fee shown in your own app before you confirm.

Most pages mention only one of the two charges, so the total looks smaller than it is. The wallet fee and the government levy are separate and both fall on the sender.

Fee trackers compile what users see, and wallets can charge less than the ceiling. That is why the same transfer can appear with different fees in different guides.

Why the sender now pays

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 the duty moved from receiver to sender from 1 January 2026, as Legit.ng reported. OPay, PalmPay and Moniepoint notified users directly about the change. For you that reverses who bears the cost when you fund and when you receive.

Transfers below ₦10,000, salaries and self-transfers between your own accounts are exempt. TechCabal set out the background to the change.

How the ceiling applies

The Central Bank guide sets ceilings for transfer charges, not fixed prices. It has applied since 1 January 2020.

Transfer amountCeiling
Below ₦5,000₦10
₦5,001 to ₦50,000₦25
Above ₦50,000₦50

A bank that overcharges faces a penalty per affected customer. A ₦10,000 transfer sits in the middle band, so a fee above ₦25 is over the ceiling.

What I have not checked

SportyBet, Bet9ja, BetKing and MSport state minimums and maximums on their own help pages, and the reviews on this site list them with links. Betway Nigeria publishes no minimum or maximum, and I have not checked deposit minimums for any operator. 1xBet publishes nothing on this that I can cite; the 1xBet review covers what its rules do say.

I have not deposited, withdrawn or timed anything. Every published figure for payout time comes from sites that did not say how they measured, so I state no time as fact.

Before you move money, check the operator review on this site for its current minimum and maximum.
